Link Building

If you were to think of your content as your voice telling the world what you are all about. Link Building will then be the volume by which you can be heard. The more links you have to a particular topic, the more popular your content is therefore your Search Engine ranking will increase.

Link Building requires three main items to be focused on. Links from High PageRank websites, relevant source and target pages and optimised keyword anchor text. The pitfall that many fall into is to obtain as many links as possible from all corners of the internet. Without the linking page or at least the anchor text being relevant to the target.

Article Submission: Some might say Articles Submission is a potent but often not widely known way of gaining Search Engine traffic. What makes a good article is not to plug your products and services including a ton of sales one-liners. Nor is it a place to link every keyphrase possible back to your site.

A good article should be well written, subjective and helpful to the target audience. Articles will be picked up and republished by webmasters, news rooms and publications. A web link will be included to the author (i.e. your site) at the bottom of the article. Imagine you are in the shoes of someone in a news room. Would you want to republish an article entitled ‘Buy my product now, its the best in the world’. Or ‘Product ABC newly released helping to bring failing business back from the brink’. As you can see, the difference is quite noticeable.

Directory Submission: There are vast numbers of online directories out there on all topics you could think of. Many are free, other require a ‘reciprocal link’ back to the directory from your site whilst others charge for inclusion. Think of these as smaller versions of the Yellow Pages. Some interestingly enough even have a higher PageRank than the more well known directories that spring to mind.  The higher the PageRank from the linking site, the greater the effect on your site.

PR Submission: Very similar to Article Submission, PR Submissions are effectively the same thing except the focus is generally allowed to be more towards the sales pitch rather than helpful article. New product releases, record profits, mergers etc. All examples of Press Release material that could well be relevant to readers or publishers within your niche/market.

Social Bookmarking: A topic in its relative infancy compared to the other items mentioned here and in other pages. Social Bookmarking websites are High PageRank websites aimed at allowing users to mark, share and review online resources (sites, pages, tools etc). The easier you enable visitors to Bookmark or Share your content, the more likely they are to do so.
